Hi,
I'm trying to connect my OBDLink to my new EV but it doesn't seem to recognise the vehicle.
And I can't use the vehicle editor to identify the car
I'm using the OBDLink CX
The vehicle is an Australian Hyundai IONIQ 5 built 2023
The IONIQ 5 is an electric vehicle
I'm using the OBDLink app on an Android (Samsung S22+)
When i connect, everything seems to work but the VIN seems corrupt and there are no vehicle details
Hope you can help,
Thx

Basically, the OBD-II standards are intended to reduce emissions. Therefore, electric vehicles are not required to support OBD-II.
So there may be some PIDs available but not all will be supported.
Kind regards,
Shawn

Shawn,
Appreciate your response but I believe the IONIQ 5 does support OBD2.
There are many references showing this make and model working with various OBD dongles.
And specific EV routing applications like ABRP rely on communications with these dongles.
So the question remains as to why this OBDLink CX dongle is not connecting.
Thx

You have a couple of conflicting statements.
- When i connect, everything seems to work but the VIN seems corrupt and there are no vehicle details
- So the question remains as to why this OBDLink CX dongle is not connecting.
To clarify, OBDLink CX does connect?
Can you clarify what you mean by a corrupt VIN? Can you post what you get?
What apps are you using?
I would like you to create a debug log. This may help us determine where the problem is.

Brian,
Thanks for responding.
Apologies for my confusing statements.
When using the OBDLink app, there appeared to be some connectivity with the dongle but information like the VIN didn't appear correctly.
However, my reason for purchasing the OBDLink CX was to use an Android app called ABRP.
This app can use an OBD dongle to track battery condition in an EV.
Even though the OBDLink app didn't seem to work as I expected, when I tried to connect ABRP to the OBDLink CX, it took a few tries but eventually connected.
So, now I'm happy that the OBDLink CX is doing what I wanted.
So all good and appreciate your and Shawn's replies.
All the best.
