Ssangyong Rexton
« on: August 18, 2010, 09:32:07 am »
Hi I am new to your forum and need feedback in regards to the Launch creader v and the suitability of it for a 2006 Ssangyong Rexton 2.7XDI.
I have had a real good look around for an affordable scan tool that will 'communicate' with this vehicles ECU (Delphi) but to this date I can find nothing that will except the Scan-100 which is a Ssangyong factory supplied tool to dealers, which means a very expensive trip to them just to clear codes. I have a mechanical background and I just want something that I can use for my personal needs.
Thanks in anticipation

Hi yitsea,

What country was the vehicle purchased in?
Do you know if it is OBD-II compliant?

If the vehicle isn't OBD-II compliant, the factory scan tool may be the only option.

Cheers,
Chris

Thanks for the reply. The vehicle was purchased new in Australia 2006 and there is the 16 pin obd connector under the dash but there is nothing on the compliance plate that indicates obd2.
I tried a creader but it said unable to connect but I spoke with another Ssangyong (2008) owner who says that his creader does.
If that is the case perhaps the protocol in my vehicle differs from his or perhaps the  software in his creader is also different!!

Hi yitsea,

It sounds very likely your vehicle is not OBD-II compliant. Unfortunately the Australian market has lagged behinds others in mandatory OBD-II compliance. Of course it wouldn't hurt to try another type of unit but the factory tool may be required.

Cheers,
Chris

Thanks Chris, I to am thinking that that is the case but I will keep my investigations up for a bit longer until I exhaust all scenarios.
I will post any findings in the future.

Hullo again, just a little more information I have accessed re creader and Ssangyong.
I have had a fellow Rexton 2.7XDI owner discuss this reader with me and he has a 2008 model vehicle (mine is 2006) and we have cross referenced various specs. and equipment from our vehicles and both appear to have identical details with the exception that on the 16 Pin Diagnosis Plug one pin ( Pin 11 ) is used on my  2006 model and not used on the 2008 model.
The point of this info is that he says that he can read and erase codes with the creader V and it connects/communicates as soon as it is plugged in.
He sent me his creader to test on my vehicle but it would not communicate.
I am guessing the difference is in the 16 Pin Diagnosis pin configuration, but who knows.
Perhaps you can enlighten me.
Check out the attachment to see what I mean.
Thanks

Pin 11 is not used by any of the 5 legislated protocols. I believe Chris was correct in that the vehicle is not OBD compliant.
